The Global Ocean Oxygen Network (GO2NE) is committed to providing a respectful, equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment to share and encourage collaboration on the global and multidisciplinary topic of ocean deoxygenation. We extend our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in all aspects of GO2NE, spanning working groups, conferences, webinars, speaker selection, and panel discussions.

Our Code of Conduct applies to members of the GO2NE working group and all attendees of any affiliated events.

Policy

Our aim in hosting GO2NE-affiliated events is to build a stronger community. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome to participate, speak up, ask questions, and engage in conversation. This requires a harassment-free and inclusive environment that recognizes the inherent worth of every participant. We invite all those who participate to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone.

We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. We do not tolerate the harassment of participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate at any time, including during talks, workshops, social events, or in social media such as Twitter, or any other online media.

Harassment includes (but is not restricted to)

• Unwelcome and offensive comments relative to participants’ gender, age, body size, physical appearance, disabilities, sexual orientation, nationality, ethnicity, religion, or lifestyle.
• Inappropriate physical contact without consent.
• Unwelcome sexual attention.
• Threats, intimidation, or violence.
• Stalking behaviors.
• Unwanted photography or recording.
• Disrupting meetings (e.g., interruptions, “zoom-bombing”) or engaging in harm or threats of harm of any kind.

Expected behavior

• Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions.
• Attempt collaboration before conflict.
• Be mindful of your surroundings and of your fellow participants.
• Alert a member of GO2NE if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem inconsequential.
• Exercise tolerance for diverse ideas and a commitment to free inquiry based on evidence and criticism.

Following a Code of Conduct allows us to create the best experience possible for all event attendees. GO2NE has a zero tolerance for disrespectful and inappropriate behaviors. If you have experienced or witnessed harassment within the GO2NE group or events, you may report it directly to members of GO2NE, such as Andreas Oschlies at aoschlies@geomar.de or Marilaure Gregoire at mgregoire@ulg.ac.be, or via the 2022 Liège Colloquium at ocean.colloquium@uliege.be.

Photography and social media guidelines

You may not record or distribute audio or visual recordings of events (via social media or any other means). Recordings of selected sessions will be made available at a later date by the organizers. Whilst reasonable documentation of the events is encouraged for promoting GO2NE and social media, please be respectful that some participants may be presenting unpublished data and do not want their slides or themselves photographed.

Attendees of GO2NE events are welcome to engage with the group and colleagues through social media, provided that your communications are respectful, appropriate for a professional audience, and adhere to the Code of Conduct. If you have questions or criticisms about a colleague’s research or presentation, we strongly encourage you to communicate that directly to your colleague rather than via social media. Unless otherwise notified to GO2NE, we assume that this code of conduct means that you accept these conditions.
